Last minute reminders

1.  Remember to bring an empty water bottle or bladder.  In Peru they're trying hard to conserve their environment, so they will have water for us but prefer that we bring a water bottle to reduce waste.

2.  Also, please TAKE A PICTURE OF EVERYTHING INSIDE YOUR LUGGAGE WITH YOUR PHONE.  I've never flown Copa Airlines, but it's a good idea whenever you travel.  If they lose your luggage, you can easily estimate cost.  Also, don't bring any super valuable stuff.

3.  Make sure your child has a passport and boarding pass carrier that they can wear around their neck.  Remember I will be constantly doing passport checks and it makes it easier...plus they're less likely to lose it.

Getting nervous?  This is normal and actually good, because it keeps us on our toes.  Keep referring to the booklet I made for you and methodically go through the list.

See you bright and early at 5:00 a.m.  If you miss the bus, stay calm, don't speed and keep in touch with me.  Call me or text me at 301-455-5163.

See you soon!

Please make sure kids bring their $50 to the airport

1.  Please make sure that you have your child bring the $50 to the airport because we will be hitting the ground running as we will experience a wonderful cultural event that is the dinner and a show that I told you about. (126 soles)

Let him/her know that they will have to dress nice to this event as it is a nice place...which doesn't mean that they have to be uncomfortable and certainly no heels.  But just try to dress it up a little.

2.  Don't forget the passport!!

3.  Once at the bus we will be giving each child a folder with some goodies.  There will be a baggie with a copy of their passport.  As soon as we get to the first hotel, they will give their passport to the appropriate chaperone and they will take the copy, which will be in a ziploc bag around with them in case they need it.  They should carry this copy around at all times.

4.  I will be weighing their luggage when they arrive so keep in mind I don't want anything heavier than 35 lbs.

5.  I will also be affixing a sticker to the front of their passport with their name for easy access.

6.  Don't forget to go through the packet I gave you and be conscientious about packing as I directed, it will make your life easier.

7.  Please do not wear strong perfumes/cologne as we will be in close quarters and that smell may not be pleasant to someone else.

I'll see you Sunday!!

Traditional Dinner and a show in Peru!

Hello everyone!

Our tour director has contacted me.  His name is Christian Moreno.  He is already finding extra exciting stuff for us to do.  He sent me this email asking if we would be interested in doing this gastronomic adventure in Peru.

As I told you, Peruvian cuisine is one of the finest in the world and on top of that you will get to go to a show like no other as it is a wonderful visual experience but also an educational one as well.

Here's the information that he sent us.  Please have your kids set aside money for this.  After all, it's a once in a lifetime.  They will need to dress nice for this (as I forewarned).  It looks like so much fun!

"Hi Guys,
If you and your students are interested in Peruvian gastronomy and folklore, together with a little urban adventure then I have an option for Dinner in Lima that might interest you;
-7:30 pm we take public transportation in Lima (15 minutes of a unique and authentic bus ride. an adventure of its own)
-8:00 pm Arrive to "Dama Juana Restaurant" in Barranco. Along with a buffet of Peruvian dishes they accompany dinner with live entertainment (typical dances from different regions of Peru)
You can check out the web page if you like http.// www.ladamajuana.com.pe web page isn’t that well translated but will give you an idea of the place.)
The meal cost is S/120 soles. If we decide to do this we would change the included dinner for Lunch.

Hope that helps can’t wait to meet everyone..

Christian Moreno

Weather in Peru.

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to let you know that our tour director has sent us this information about the weather:

Weather in Peru
LIMA
During June the weather is mild!!! Average high (19 °C / 66 °F), average low (12 °C / 53 °F). NO WET or rainy days in this month, but usually over cast and light fog.
Dress for mild weather in Lima. (The walk in Lima will be really easy and pretty much flat so you can walk in sneakers or good sandals, Shirts or T-shirts lightweight pants). Pack mild-weather clothing for day and jackets and sweaters for the evening.
CUSCO
During June its dry season in Cusco let’s say 3 rainy days in this month!!! About temperature: Average high (19 °C / 67 °F), average low (1 °C / 34 °F).
The above being said its always good to plan for rain just in case!!! Bring a raincoat or a rain poncho and waterproof shoes. Jeans are common for the region although they are difficult to wash by hand, and take a long time to dry. Peru often experiences long bouts of rain, so you may find yourself drying your clothes inside your room. Avoid carrying heavy, wet jeans in your luggage, by bringing lightweight, quick drying pants. The weather forecast doesnt call for rain but just in cased..
Dress for cold nights. While you may experience hot, sunny days, the evenings quickly cool off, so bring a lightweight fleece that you can easily carry in your backpack or day bag. Also, pack warm pajamas, as hotel blankets are often not sufficient to keep the chill off at night.
Protect yourself from the strong Andean sun by wearing sunglasses, a sun hat, sunblock lotion with a high protection factor and lip protection.
Take comfortable sneakers or breathable hiking boots. The rural streets of Peru are either dirt or paved with jagged stones, and often slippery when wet, which can be rough on sandaled feet!!!
MACHUPICCHU
During June, still the dry season with little to no rainy days average of 3 rainy days in this month, the temperature is quite nice, rarely rising above 30°C (86ºF) nor dropping 12°C (50ºF)
The weather will be pretty much like Cusco so layer your clothing as climate changes rapidly throughout the day and from region to region. This is especially important when taking the bus and train trips. You may start the day off in the warmth of the sun, but you will soon find yourself shivering in your seat and later caught in the cool Peruvian air wearing only a t-shirt!!!
So remember that we have an overnight in Machupicchu and for that we need to bring a CARRY ON DAY PACK. We are not allowed to take the big suit cases on the train!!! so for your overnight bag dont forget to pack a jacket and some warm clothes for the evening.

Read thoroughly when packing.

Can't wait!

Peru, 2018

Hello everybody!  I'm so excited about our trip to Peru.  We will be keeping you posted on our whereabouts, adventures and reflections over our 12 day tour.

During these glorious days, all travelers will be required to write on the blog their impressions, reflections and experiences...grown ups too and they will work in teams.  I will be loading their pictures too!

I know you're excited and that you have been acquiring a lot of knowledge about Peru and travel in general.  If you have any tips to give other travelers, please post them here.

I'll see you tomorrow night! Have a wonderful evening!
